Around the hotel

About the hotel

The child-friendly Forest and Sport Hotel Festenburg is nestled in Harz Nature Park, halfway between Goslar and Clausthal-Zellerfeld. Its 64 rooms were completely renovated in 2014 and are equipped with a shower, a toilet, a telephone, a TV and wireless internet access. Breakfast and dinner buffets are offered in its panorama restaurant, in addition to a varied à la carte lunch. When the weather is nice, our terrace invites you to while away your time. Have a drink in the cozy “Bahnstübchen” or celebrate in our parlor in the evenings. The swimming pool and the new sauna with an outdoor area help you to feel relaxed and contented, and with the bowling alley, the ping-pong tables and table soccer at hand, there will be no time to get bored. The physiotherapy department offers spa treatments and massages. Prescriptions for preventative and rehabilitation treatments can be filled here and can also be obtained from our doctor, who visits the hotel twice a week. A gym with the most modern equipment, an 18-hole miniature golf course, boccia lanes, a beach volleyball court and a small-sided soccer field will help to keep you active. Children can run around at the adventure playground or in the playroom, depending on the weather. The many sports and leisure facilities of Holiday Complex Brockenblick in Schulenburg (about 6 km away) – including a playground and a recreational field – are available to our guests free of charge.

In a separate building, about 200 meters from the main building, are four apartments for dog owners. Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted in the hotel restaurant or the hotel bar.

About the place

Clausthal-Zellerfeld – a spa town and winter-sport resort with a healthy climate – sits near the myth-enshrouded Brocken, amidst lakes and mountains in the wild and romantic Harz. Rocks, cliffs and forests as far as the eye can see form one of the most beautiful landscapes in Germany. Its sights – such as the Upper Harz Mining Museum, an important geological collection and the largest wooden church from the 17th century – give the tradition-rich university town its special appeal.

The water management system in operation in the Upper Harz for centuries, known as the Wasserregal, is one of the world's largest pre-industrial energy supply systems and was recognized as a World Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO. Forest and Sport Hotel Festenburg draws its water from the Upper Harz water table – so our guests can claim to be drinking and showering with "a piece of world cultural heritage"!
